Fresh Picks: August 2011

It’s August & it’s hot out! It’s that time again for our edition of monthly faves!

We’re a day late, but this month’s round up of favorites is full of fun products to bring home! I say it every month, but I LOVE writing up the monthly favorties post because I get to showcase some items off my wish list and items I have already picked up! I also enjoy hearing what you all are drooling over these days as well!

So… let’s begin!

Here’s the Home Edition:

Here’s the breakdown:

1. You might recall, I have been ‘into’ sewing this year. Since purchasing my trusty sewing machine, I have been turning into a real suzy homemaker! I love sewing and am ready to start creating more than just your typical pillow. I recently found Martha Stewart’s Encyclopeida of Sewing & Fabric Crafts, which is chock full of fabulous sewing projects! It’s sew {get it} great!

2. It’s no secret that I am a little obsessed with chevron and zig zag patterns. I look for it everywhere and anywhere. I recently found a set of zig zag plates {by Crate & Barrel} that incorporate a few fun colors! They would make a perfect tablescape with bright napkins & flowers!

3. Sunbursts are a HUGE trend in design right now, you can find the pattern in mirrors, frames, fabric & more. I adore these sunburst frames {by Z Gallerie}, they are made out of a natural material and would be a great accent to a side table or shelf.

4. On my search for a pendant for a new design project I am working on, I came across this fantastic vintage inspired pendant {by School House Electric}. It is streamlined and would look great in a crisp white kitchen!

5. Ever since my gluten allergy revealed itself over a year ago, I have learned to make my food in advance for parties & days out on the go to make my life a little easier {and also so I don’t starve to death when there isn’t gluten free food around}. I recently invested in a little lunch bag to carry my snakcs & meals in for those times when I need to bring a little something just in case. I got a fun pink & gray lunch tote, but I found this aqua tote {by Crate & Barrel} and wished now I had gotten it {you know to satisy my aqua addiction}.

6. Keep the fire burning. I have a major addition to candles. I light them all day & night if I am home. I love the ambiance, the fragrance, the look… I just love candles. I recently stopped into good ol’ Pier 1 since I had a $10 off when you spend $10 or more coupon… if you read that right- that equals free!! I stopped in and grabbed one of these fabulously scented candle tins for a whopping $3.38. Can’t beat that!

7. Yes, it’s a chevron pattern once again. I love the idea of going HUGE with that beloved pattern with this chevron chair {by Urban Outfitters}. It comes in yellow, blue and gray. I love it and want it so bad. Cute, or what?

8. I love when back to school products hit the store around this time every year. I was one of those kids who LOVED picking out my supplies every year. I actually still do love picking out supplies for my nieces & nephews. Something about walking through the section with the fun markers, cute pencils, patterned binders and lined paper makes me want to leap for joy. {I am a dork- and I am ok with it}. Anyways, Kevin and I are about to re-do our office, and I came across these fun chalkboard office accessories by {CB2} and thought they would be a fun addition for organizing!

Now for the Beauty Edition…

Here’s the breakdown:

1. Who doesn’t love sparkly shoes? These silver glitter shoes from Tom’s are on my wish list for sure. I think they would go great with jeans, capris and even skirts. Perfect for the end of summer, spring & fall!

2. During the summer I don’t dry my hair too often because of the lovely Florida humidty. I love to sport a semi-wet messy bun with a cute headband to complete the summer look. I have tons of headbands {silver, glittery, pink, brown, leopard print, flowered, butterflies…} I am loving this tortoise print headband from Forever 21, at only $3.80 it’s a must-have!

3. You might recall from July’s faves that I am really into painting my nails this season. I picked up a fun aqua shade called Beach Bum Blu from Essie, and it is adorable!! So summery and fun!

4. Is there anything better than costume jewelry for that fun addition to your outfit? I love a fun necklace, braclet or ring to add interest & personality to my outfits. I am loving this aqua and pink ring by the lovely Etsy seller, Little Miss Momma. So adorable!

5. I may be totally late in the game on this one, but on one of my recent Target shopping trips, I picked up one of these fabulous little nail buffer blocks and I have been in heaven ever since. Seriously, why didn’t I know about this super cheap item? It has 4 numbered sides and it works like a charm! You can pick it up in stores only- but do it, your nails will thank you!

6. Lastly, since I am into the wet, messy hair look for the summer, I have been looking for hair products that will fight the humidty and add moisture to my hair {without feeling heavy or greasy}, I have heard all about the Pantene Pro-V Soothing Balm and how great it is… I am off to get it shortly!

Yay! So that sums up this months faves. Like, love or have-to-have any items?? DO TELL. What are you guys eyeing this month??

P.S. I know I have mentioend it for awhile, but our website is getting a major makeover and I am really excited about it! News coming!
