Last weekend was Kevin’s Birthday and we took the day off to drive the 1 to Sanibel & Captiva Islands for the day.
We thought it might be fun to show you some spring eye candy… the place is b-e-a-utiful.
We took the 2 hour drive South a bit to Sanibel & Captiva Islands for the day and boy oh boy was it worth the drive. I had had been there on vacation with the family back in high school, but it appeared even more beautiful than I remembered!
The drive over the bridge looked a bit like this…
We settled in the cutest {secluded} spot between Sanibel & Captiva and had a picnic… just look at the surroundings…
It was the best picnic we have ever had. Ahhh…
Next, we went driving a bit {with the windows down, my feet on the dash, camera in hand & Kevin doing the driving}. The sights are fantastic around there, the homes GORGEOUS, the plants bright and beautiful. I love it.
The homes come in all sizes and shades…
This cute cottage {below} is so adorable… and it’s also under construction… wow… talk about improvements
I guess they are getting another house and maybe this can be the guest house? Crazy beautiful. Look at the details on roof on the existing home…
And the cutest white picket fence {love it}…
We also happen to stumble upon the BIGGEST home we have ever seen. It is directly across from the beach and it is massive in size {hard to tell by the pics since we can’t get close enough because of security, although we did pull in the driveway}. The sign out on the gate said Roosevelt Manor. um. yeah. enough said.
We also went shopping a bit… they have the cutest stores ever.
Then… my Mr. found THE CUTEST CHAPEL IN THE WORLD. Chapel By The Sea is adorable inside and out and happens to have the most gorgeous shade of aqua pews and trim work. LOVE IT WITH ALL MY HEART. Originally built in 1901 as a schoolhouse that doubled as a church on Sundays, this charming chapel now serves as a seaside worship site, an interdenominational church (November through April) and popular wedding spot.
The crisp white walls and wooden ceiling, the aqua pews and the red worship books had me at hello.
We also walked our hearts out and saw some other fun sights…
We spent ALL day on Sanibel & Captiva and loved every second of our quality time together. Since I showed you what the way in looked like, I figured it might be fun to show you our way out…
Beautiful right? We decided on the way home that we love day trips and it gives us a chance to get away, spend good quality time together, chat, have fun, laugh and walk out our friendship even more. We usually do everything on a budget and the grand total of this day with on the cheap.
Here is the budget breakdown:
Gas: $30
Food {picnic}: We packed food and drinks for the whole day and it was built in to our grocery budget already
Parking & Bridge Tolls: $8
Since you just can’t beat that, we are planning another day trip soon and we will keep you in on it as it occurs! P.S. We took you to Fort Myers Beachawhile back, check that post out too if you are in the traveling mood!
Do you have a favorite day trip spot? Do Tell… we would love to hear all about your traveling tales!

OMG Lindsay we used to go to Sanibel every winter when I was a kid. This brings back such great memories and I think I remember she sells sea shells. I remember the name, if not the building since it looks a little different. Love, love, love.
