A Few Good Reads: Crafting, Sewing & Decor

 I love books… all kinds actually. If you follow me on Twitter, you might have heard me tweet about going to a closing Border’s Bookstore recently and finding a few really good deals. I am just beginning to peruse through my new reads and thought I might share my latest book purchases…

1/ The Crafty Superstar {by: Grace Dobush}

This book is great because it talks about getting in touch with your crafty side, how to sell, advertise and showoff your handmade {DIY} goods. It also is great because it has a resource list of all kinds of blogs, Etsy Shops and websites that sell handmade crafts. It has secrets about how to get press and also how to balance life, blogging and crafts!

I am loving the tips and fun ideas this book has inspired in me. I am looking forward to implemeting a bunch of these ideas into A Design Story!

2/ Sewn Spaces {by: Joel Dewberry}

This book is great for beginning sewers {like myself}. I purchased my first sewing machine last year and have made some starfish pillows, a lumbar pillow and a few other things… now I am really wanting to get ‘for real’ about it and sew more. This books COMES WITH PATTERNS in the back pocket {love that}. It also has all types of sewing tutorials… like… reupholstering chairs, making quilts, tea towels, pajama pants, decorative pillows & more.

I am on the hunt for some great fabric in fun patterns…. so as soon as I select some I will be sewing up a storm over here. Of course I will keep you all updated on the progress as it happens!

3/ Domino {by: Deborah Needleman, Sara Costello & Dara Caponigro}

Yeah, I know I am totally late on this bandwagon. I have actually wanted this book for awhile {not only for what’s inside, but for the cover too}. I actually have lost of design and décor books that I saved from my days at Ringling, so I waited because they are chock full of real interior design information. I decided a week ago, it was time to get my Domino fix. I actually ordered this book from Amazon and it just came!! I am so excited to get in and see what kind of tips and inspiration it has to offer.

So… that sums up today’s good reads. I did get a couple more boos, but you will have to wait to hear all about those!  In the meantime… want these reads? {Here are the links to Amazon} The Crafty Superstar, Sewn Spaces & Domino. {Love books? Check out this post on gaining decor inspiration from a book}.

What book are you reading these days? Craft, décor or maybe Fiction?? DO TELL. Kevin and I both LOVE to read… any favorites? Dish it…

      It is a goodie for sure. It is rather cheap on Amazon… I found it at Barnes & Noble for like $32 bucks… Amazon I think has it for around $14-$19. I hope ya get it… you won’t regret it!

    I have picked up two decorating books recently, that I am actually READING and not just looking at the pictures. Lately I am getting into all things vintage, so I picked up Vintage Vavoom by the editors of Romantic Homes Magazines, and since my family history goes back to Louisiana, I picked up Creole Thrift, by Angele Parlange. Enjoying both of them immensely. I will have to check out the Domino book and Sewn Spaces. My husband bought me a sewing machine a couple of years of ago, and I have yet to break it out.

    I saw the Domino book at West Elm, but only flipped thru it briefly. (My husband was itching to leave…)

    That first one (the crafty one) looks very interesting!
