Last Friday, I wrote about my obsession with colorfully painted interior doors… what I didn’t mention was that I am also really into painted dressers too!
{NOTE: I am in the middle of doing a few switch-a-roos in the living room- hence the pillows on the floor, & cluttered corners & wintery items- hey we are keeping it real by showing you. Oh & P.S. Our cat Tebow must see something out the window there…}Check out our plans for each room, including the living room!
Our living room is one of my favorite places in our home. I adore our striped wall, aqua drapes and the ladder shelf. It’s where we play games, get competitive playing Super Mario Wii and watch TV {which happens to be one of my favorite things to do}. Originally, when we were engaged and preparing for our 1sthome together, we went to Ikea & stocked up on a few items we really needed… like the tv stand, coffee table, end tables {which are our temporary night stands}, bookshelf in the office & other smaller odds & ends.
Most of the pieces have been perfect! Most…
Well, except the TV stand. Although it sleek and low, which we originally liked, the problem now is that it is low. We have 6 kids here a lot {3 nieces and 3 nephews} and not to mention we want kids too! Our beloved flat screen gets lots of finger and hand prints while the kids are here… because frankly it is too so low any child would want to touch it and it is our fault for tempting them with it!
So… the dilemma… what to do, what to do! I was trying to wait and show you the plans when we got the new piece, but I haven’t actually picked it out yet because I can’t find the perfect one. Kevin and I decided we wanted a new TV stand that is a bit taller and more “us”. {I am not into the typical “furniture sets” from a showroom, there is no creativity and no personality to picking an entire set off a showroom… BORING…} A dresser {or chest} seems like the PERFECT solution… because…
1. Budget friendly because we can get it used
2. We will have even more storage for Wii controllers, accessories, DVD’s etc.
3. We can have fun & DIY {actually DIO- Do it Ourselves}
4. We get to show you lovely readers the entire project
I found a few inspiration pieces… take a looksy!
– We really want something with some shape and form…
– I want to possibly take out a few drawers for our Cable Box and DVD player
– I want a piece with knobs… so I can pick out some new fun one’s like these {from Anthropologie}…
Now, as far as color goes… here are a few swatches we have been looking at!
Let’s talk TV options for a second…
– We may keep it the same where the TV just sits on top of the piece and we can swivel the TV when we need to… which is kind of nice
– Or hang the TV up and bring the cords through the wall {because there is nothing worse than seeing cords everywhere}
As soon as the right piece reveals itself to us… we will get this project started & keep you in the loop of course!

What do you guys think? Have a favorite swatch? Do tell… Also… now that we are on the ‘color subject’, what do you think about painting our pantry door?

Hi Lindsey! I love your blog. I think painted dressers are gorgeous! I am also a fan of changing old knobs to spruce up an older piece. Too bad I am not crafty enough to do some of this stuff myself. My fave place for knobs is Anthropologie. They have the best stuff!!

Lauren- Thanks! I am glad you found us!! I too have a fun little obsession with the cute knobs from Anthropologie! I will let you know which one’s I pick when the dresser is finally picked out!

I love this idea too! Anything that allows you to do a project AND have functional storage at the end is great. The first image above, the springy green one is my favorite, but I love the bright yellow one with the hanging pulls and the blue one with the three little top drawers too. I love the top middle and top right swatches too. The middle one reminds me of a lighter version of the color I painted my Ikea Malm bedroom dresser.
